Malta
Malta was founded to solve a key challenge of the energy transition: enabling clean, flexible, reliable, and affordable energy.
Malta’s Journey
Malta Inc. was born from the ideas of a Nobel Prize–winning Stanford physicist who theorized that the fastest path to decarbonizing electricity was through the integration of existing technologies and supply chains.
The concept was incubated at X, Alphabet’s Moonshot Factory, where the team identified the potential to unlock low-cost clean energy to meet global demand.
After demonstrating the feasibility of a thermo-electric energy storage system that could operate at scale and compete on price, Malta spun out as an independent company.
First Commercial Deployment Underway
Malta’s Advanced Heat Pump (AHP) is being deployed at Proman’s methanol plant in Pampa, Texas, marking the first commercial deployment of ultra-high temperature heat pump technology at industrial scale.
The 11 MWth system, with a COP of 4.6, will recover waste heat to deliver high-pressure steam, reducing boiler gas consumption by 61% and significantly lowering CO₂ emissions.
